CONGREGATION B'NAI TORAH

of East Contra Costa County

Congregation B'nai Torah was founded in 1988. It is the only synagogue serving the East Contra Costa community. B'nai Torah endorses the ideological principles of Reform Judaism, while conserving Jewish tradition in its practices.

As a result, it offers its membership many enlightened differences that distinguish it from the conventional:

-Spiritual Leadership is provided by Rabbi Ira Book and Lay Leadership.

-Religious and Hebrew School accommodates children from Kindergarten and up. Children get to do special projects like ceramics, making Havdalah Candles and field trips. They also will participate in services. Adult Education offered to all adults. Bar and Bat Mitzvah preparation is available to all students.

-Diversity within the congregation is one of our strongest assets. We have single members, married members, families with young children, grown children and no children; young people, senior citizens, mixed marriages, people who only come on holidays and people that attend services every week. We are here to allow you to participate at whatever level best fits your needs.

-Social Activities enable members to expand their circle of friends. During 2007 we have had many socials. A Valentine's adult social, Family Bowling Day, Popcorn and Movie night, Family Pool Party, Family Barbeque, Purim Festival, Chanukah Party, Shabbat Dinners and a Passover Seder. We also have social groups such as the Men's Club and Sisterhood.

-More fun Activities like an Art Auction, Silent Auction and Garage Sale,

-Worship Services are held either Friday or Saturday. Please check the calendar of events for the latest days and times. Special services are held for many holidays and High Holy Days.

-Temple Library with many Jewish books for reference, biographical, fiction and children's books are available for checkout to all members.
